Q: Our club used "xyz" professional video service in the past, and they did a great job, but they were not able to sell very many tapes (or DVDs). Won't that be a problem for you?
A: NO, not at all. We have found that many clubs had in the past contracted with "xyz", and that exhaustive video recordings were produced of every event at the show. Then, typically, the tapes were broken down into segments (like WD, WB, BOB, Sweeps, etc) and sold separately. Typically the price point was quite significant - about $25 - $30 or as much as $50 per tape, and something like $250 to $300 for a complete set. What we do is quite different. We edit the recordings significantly so that the complete show fits on one or two DVDs, and we sell the entire product at one price, usually ~$50 per set of DVDs. This price is in the ballpark of 1 - 2 show photos, or 1 - 2 entry fees, which is affordable by most. The value to the breeder/owner/handler, or to the novice spectator is huge. Not only are the DVDs a nice bit of memorabilia of the event, but they also serve as a fantastic reference for researching stud dogs, brood bitches, littermates, pedigrees, breeding programs and the like in the future!
Q: Other videos that we have seen are hard to follow; either the dogs are just not labeled or someone reads information from the catalogue onto the tape, which is hard to follow. Do you label the dogs or events?
A: YES we do! Since our recordings are all digital, and all of our video editing is done on the computer, what we do is to imbed a marker right into the digital video with each dog's AKC registered name and show armband number, and that is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Also, we use a digital menu system on the DVD that allows the viewer to select which event they wish to view at any time. For example, one might view the Top 20, then flip to Juniors, and go back to Best of Breed. That's great!
Q: Will there be any charge to the Parent Club? Are there any hidden costs?
A: NO! We do not charge any retainer or other fee to video the show. Instead, we consider it an honor to be allowed to video your dogs and your show. There is no minimum purchase requirement, and no guaranteed or quota number of DVD sales required. We make a profit on DVD sales. If our DVDs are not entertaining or of value to your members, market forces will tell us that (DVD sales will be poor). If that were to happen (it hasn't yet), then we'd look at how we make our DVDs and improve the next time!
Q: Will the Parent Club be expected to sell DVDs?
A: NO. We will handle all of the sales and transactions.
Q: What will the Parent Club be expected to do to provide our members and spectators your service?
A: After we verbally agree to video your show, we will send a commitment letter that will allow you to confirm that your show will be videoed by us, and confirm the dates and location. We will work with your show committee to secure space ringside for our camera. If possible, we would prefer to have an insert in your premium and/or pre-show mailer announcing that we will be filming your show. A sample insert can be downloaded from our site (click here). We would also like to have an advertisement in your show catalogue, which will indicate that we are filming and direct persons interested in the DVDs to our website for ordering information. We prefer to hand out DVD Order Forms (click here) at the show. We will support having samples of our DVDs running at an exhibition table at the show, but this is not a requirement for our services. Finally, we like to put up a banner at the show, if permissable.
Q: You know, "abc" dog show video service sells their DVDs to the Parent Club at a discount so that the club can resell them at a profit. Why don't you do that?
A: We have very carefully studied the overall marketing of our product, and narrowed the price point to be extremely competitive. Our profits are linked to the number of DVDs sold. Most clubs just do not wish to guarantee a minimum number of DVDs purchased, which is how a discounted rate system typically works. Also, we have found it advantageous to relieve parent clubs of the overhead both in effort and expense of handling the sales and transactions.
